A branch of hard rock … the distinction is not always obvious: hard rock would remain more blues-rock, metal is harder
and is adorned with a dark and gothic imagery.
Gladiator poses, leather, pounding drums, and extreme loudness are other hallmarks of the genre.
The expression first appeared in
Steppenwolf’s famous « Born to be Wild » in 1968.
